New Delhi: Junior World Squash Champion and India’s leading young squash player Anahat Singh visited the Teej Mela at Bikaner House in the national capital on Tuesday. The young sportsperson explored the fair and experienced Rajasthan’s colourful cultural heritage, including its folk art, handicrafts, traditional clothing and cuisine.
During her visit, Anahat interacted with artists, artisans and participants and learned more about their creative work. She also felicitated children who won different competitions organised at the fair.
Addressing young visitors, Anahat highlighted the importance of sports in a young person’s life. She encouraged them to pursue sports alongside their studies, saying that sports promote fitness, discipline and confidence and can also open avenues to represent the country.
Principal Resident Commissioner Rohit Kumar said Anahat Singh, who became the first Indian squash player to win the junior world championship, admired the wide range of Rajasthan’s traditional arts and folk culture presented at the event.
According to him, the Teej Mela is more than a cultural celebration. It helps younger generations connect with traditional heritage and gives Rajasthan’s artists and artisans an opportunity to showcase their skills before a wider national and international audience.
