Weather to change across Delhi-NCR and Uttar Pradesh; IMD warns of rain, lightning, gusty winds and possible travel disruptions today
New Delhi: People in Delhi-NCR may finally get some relief from the intense summer heat today as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rain, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds across the region. The weather department has issued a Yellow Alert for Delhi and nearby areas, warning residents about sudden weather changes and possible disruptions.
Delhi and surrounding areas have been facing extremely hot weather for the past several days, with temperatures touching 43°C to 45°C in some places. However, a western disturbance along with moisture-laden winds is expected to change the weather pattern.
According to the IMD, the sky will remain partly cloudy during the day and may become cloudy by the afternoon and evening. Light rain along with thunderstorms and lightning is likely in many parts of Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad.
During thunderstorm activity, wind speeds may reach 50 to 60 kmph, with gusts touching up to 70 kmph. The expected rain is likely to bring down temperatures and provide relief from the heatwave-like conditions that people have been experiencing.
Temperature May Fall by Several Degrees
Weather experts say Delhi’s maximum temperature may stay between 34°C and 36°C today, which is much lower than the temperatures recorded earlier this week.
The drop in temperature is expected to make the weather more comfortable, although humidity levels may increase after the rainfall.
The IMD’s Yellow Alert means people should stay aware of weather updates and take necessary precautions. Authorities warned that heavy winds and rain may trigger traffic disruptions due to waterlogging, poor visibility and fallen tree branches.
Residents have also been advised not to stand under trees during thunderstorms and to secure any loose items kept outdoors.

Weather Change Expected Across the Entire NCR Region
The forecast covers almost the entire NCR region, including Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, Faridabad and nearby districts.
According to the regional weather bulletin, light rain and thunderstorms are likely in all districts of Delhi. Similar weather conditions may continue until Sunday morning, although the intensity is expected to reduce gradually.
Meteorologists say the current weather system is helping to weaken the heatwave conditions across North India. Moisture coming from the Arabian Sea is interacting with western disturbances over northwest India, creating favourable conditions for rain and thunderstorms.
Because of this, several northern states, including Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, are also expected to receive rainfall and strong winds.
Large Parts of Uttar Pradesh Also Under Alert
The weather change is not limited to Delhi-NCR. Many parts of Uttar Pradesh are also likely to experience rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds on May 30.
The IMD has issued weather warnings for several districts across both western and eastern Uttar Pradesh. In many places, wind speeds may range between 50 and 70 kmph, while some areas could see even stronger winds.
The weather system is likely to affect many districts across Uttar Pradesh. From Noida and Ghaziabad in the west to Gorakhpur, Kushinagar and Deoria in the east, several areas may witness rain, thunderstorms and strong gusty winds.
Some of these districts may also witness hailstorms and intense lightning activity.
Strong Winds Could Cause Damage in Some Areas
The IMD has issued higher-level warnings for parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh, where weather conditions may become more severe.
In some districts, wind speeds may reach between 70 and 100 kmph. Such strong winds could damage trees, temporary structures, power lines and standing crops.
Authorities have advised people to stay indoors during thunderstorms and avoid unnecessary travel when severe weather is active.
Relief From Heat, But Travel Disruptions Possible
While the rain is expected to bring much-needed relief from the heat, it may also lead to some difficulties.
If thunderstorms become stronger, flights, train services and road traffic could be affected. Previous rain spells in Delhi-NCR have caused traffic jams, waterlogging and delays in transportation services.
Officials are keeping a close watch on the situation and have asked people to follow weather advisories throughout the day.
Experts have also warned about the dangers of lightning, which is one of the biggest risks during pre-monsoon thunderstorms.
They have urged people to stay away from open fields, electric poles and water bodies during lightning activity. They have also advised farmers to seek immediate shelter if they hear thunder or see dark clouds gathering overhead.
Hot Weather May Return Next Week
Weather experts say the current spell of rain and thunderstorms will provide temporary relief from the intense heat across North India.
However, temperatures are expected to rise again during the first week of June as the weather system weakens. While some areas may continue to receive scattered rainfall over the next 24 to 48 hours, hotter conditions are likely to return later next week.
For now, people across Delhi-NCR and many parts of Uttar Pradesh can expect a break from the scorching heat as rain, thunderstorms and cooler winds bring a noticeable change in the weather on May 30.This version uses simpler, reader-friendly language while retaining every key fact, forecast, warning, district name, and weather detail from the original report.
