Deepinder Goyal says “he wants to work on new and higher-risk ideas, leading a public company needs full focus”
New Delhi: Deepinder Goyal, co-founder of Zomato and Group CEO of Eternal, has announced that he will step down from his role. He shared this decision through a letter addressed to the company’s shareholders. This change will take effect from February 1, 2026.
At the same time, Eternal confirmed that Albinder Singh Dhindsa, who is currently the CEO of Blinkit, will become the new Group CEO.
Goyal will stay connected with the company
Although Deepinder Goyal is stepping down as CEO, he will continue to work with Eternal. He will take on the role of Vice Chairman of the Board, subject to shareholder approval.
In this position, he will focus on long-term strategy, company culture, leadership guidance, governance, and major decisions. Therefore, this move changes his role but does not end his association with the company.
Why Goyal made this decision
In his letter, Goyal explained that he now wants to work on new and higher-risk ideas. However, he believes such ideas are difficult to pursue within the limits of a large listed company.
Moreover, he said that being the CEO of a public company in India requires complete attention and responsibility. Because of this, he decided to hand over daily leadership to someone else.
Albinder Dhindsa takes over as CEO
Albinder Dhindsa, the founder and CEO of Blinkit, will now lead Eternal as Group CEO. Under his leadership, Blinkit has grown quickly and shown strong improvement after becoming part of Eternal.
As a result, Dhindsa will now manage daily operations, execution, and business decisions across all group companies.
Focus shifts toward quick commerce
This leadership change also highlights Eternal’s growing focus on quick commerce. Blinkit has emerged as a key growth engine for the company in recent months.

Meanwhile, Eternal’s shift from the Zomato brand reflects its plan to grow as a diversified consumer internet company rather than only a food delivery platform.
Strong company performance
Eternal recently reported strong financial results, with profits rising sharply compared to the previous year. Blinkit’s improved performance played an important role in this growth.
However, the company’s structure will remain unchanged. Zomato’s food delivery business and Blinkit’s quick commerce operations will continue under the Eternal group.
What remains the same
Even after stepping down as CEO, Deepinder Goyal will remain involved in shaping the company’s future. At the same time, Eternal will continue to focus on growth, stability, and long-term value under its new leadership.
