Historic Day for Ladakh: 5 New Districts Announced, LG Vinay Kumar Saxena Calls It a Major Milestone

Union Territory Ladakh’s Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena has announced the creation of five new districts in the region. Sharing the update on social media, he described it as a historic day for the people of Ladakh, stating that their long-standing demands and aspirations have finally been fulfilled. With this move, the total number of districts in Ladakh will increase from 2 to 7.

The Lieutenant Governor approved the notification for the formation of five new districts and wrote, “A historic day for Ladakh. I have approved the notification for the creation of five new districts. This fulfills the long-pending aspirations and demands of the people of Ladakh.”

District count rises from 2 to 7

Following this announcement, Ladakh will now have seven districts instead of the existing two—Leh and Kargil. The newly created districts include Nubra, Sham, Changthang, Zanskar, and Drass. Saxena termed this decision a reflection of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed and prosperous Ladakh.

New districts to bring Governance closer to people

The Lieutenant Governor further stated that the creation of new districts will bring governance closer to the people. It is expected to open up new opportunities for development, employment, and entrepreneurship. He expressed confidence that this historic decision will benefit every citizen of Ladakh and help the region move toward a brighter, stronger, and more prosperous future.
