IND vs NZ 4th T20I: Santner Shines, Seifert Leads as New Zealand Beat India by 50 Runs

IND vs NZ T20: New Zealand post massive total, dominate with bat and ball, and outplay India in fourth T20I at Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam: New Zealand delivered a confident and complete performance to defeat India by 50 runs in the fourth T20 International at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium. Although India had already sealed the five-match series, New Zealand stayed competitive and reduced the gap to 3–1, gaining much-needed confidence ahead of the final match.

After winning the toss, India bowled first. However, New Zealand made full use of the batting-friendly conditions and quickly took control of the game.

Aggressive Opening Start

From the very first over, New Zealand’s batters played with clear intent. Tim Seifert and Devon Conway attacked the Indian bowlers and did not allow them to settle.

Seifert looked in complete control as he smashed the ball cleanly across the ground. He scored a powerful 62 runs off 36 balls, setting the tone early. At the other end, Conway supported him well with a quick 44 off 23 balls, ensuring the run rate stayed high.

Together, the openers added 100 runs in just over eight overs and put India under serious pressure.

Runs Flow Freely

As the innings progressed, India managed to break the opening stand, but New Zealand refused to slow down. The batters continued to rotate strike and punish loose deliveries.

Glenn Phillips added useful runs in the middle overs, while Daryl Mitchell provided the late boost with an unbeaten 39 off 18 balls. His aggressive hitting in the final overs helped New Zealand finish strongly.

Eventually, New Zealand posted 215 for 7 in 20 overs, one of their highest T20I totals against India, and set a stiff target of 216 runs.

Bowling Under Pressure

India’s bowlers struggled to control the scoring on a pitch that offered good bounce and value for shots. Despite their efforts, they failed to contain New Zealand’s aggressive batting.

Arshdeep Singh and Kuldeep Yadav picked up two wickets each, but the bowlers conceded too many runs in the powerplay and death overs. As a result, New Zealand managed to maximize the final overs and build a commanding total.

Chase Starts Poorly

India’s chase never found momentum. The top order failed to settle, and wickets kept falling at regular intervals.

Early dismissals put India on the back foot, and New Zealand’s bowlers maintained tight lines and pressure. By the 11th over, India were struggling at 87 for 5, with the required run rate climbing rapidly.

At that stage, the chase looked increasingly difficult.

Dube’s Explosive Show

Just when the match seemed out of reach, Shivam Dube produced a sensational counterattack. He smashed 65 runs off just 23 balls, bringing the crowd to life.

Dube reached his half-century in only 15 balls, one of the fastest T20I fifties by an Indian batter. His innings included seven sixes and three fours, highlighted by a stunning 29-run over against Ish Sodhi.

However, the thrilling knock ended in disappointment when Dube was run out following a deflection, ending India’s biggest hope of a comeback.

Rinku Fights Alone

After Dube’s dismissal, Rinku Singh tried to steady the innings. He scored a fighting 39 off 30 balls, rotating the strike and showing composure.

Despite his effort, the required run rate remained too high. With little support from the lower order, India failed to keep pace with the target.

India were eventually bowled out for 165 in 18.4 overs, losing the match by 50 runs.

Santner Turns Match

New Zealand’s bowlers delivered a disciplined performance while defending the big total. Mitchell Santner played a crucial role in breaking India’s middle order.

Santner finished with 3 wickets for 26 runs, applying pressure at key moments. Jacob Duffy and Ish Sodhi also chipped in with important wickets, ensuring India never gained full control of the chase.

Player of the Match

Tim Seifert was named Player of the Match for his explosive and match-winning innings at the top of the order. His knock laid the foundation for New Zealand’s commanding victory.

Series Update Now

With this win, New Zealand reduced India’s lead to 3–1 in the five-match T20I series. The victory gives the Black Caps confidence and momentum heading into the final game.

India, despite already winning the series, will look to regroup, fix batting inconsistencies, and fine-tune combinations ahead of upcoming international tournaments.

Match At Glance

The fourth T20I showcased explosive batting, smart bowling, and moments of individual brilliance. New Zealand’s massive total and disciplined bowling proved too strong for India, despite Shivam Dube’s breathtaking counterattack. The result sets the stage for an exciting final match of the series.
