Infosys has requested certain employees to work in the office for 10 days a month, according to a source familiar with the situation. This decision is in line with a broader trend where companies worldwide are reevaluating their remote work policies that were implemented during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic. Reasons for this shift range from improved efficiency to enhanced collaboration. Infosys, without providing an official comment, has informed specific entry and mid-level staff through email about the change, set to begin on November 20. It’s important to note that this new arrangement will not impact all employees. Infosys CEO Salil Parekh emphasized the company’s commitment to flexibility while mentioning a gradual return of employees to the office during quarterly and weekly observations. In a related development, the co-founder of Infosys, N.R. Narayana Murthy, generated controversy by encouraging young Indians to work 70 hours a week for the country’s development. Meanwhile, Tata Consultancy Services, a major competitor, has already asked its employees to return to the office for five days a week. Tech giants Amazon.com Inc and Alphabet Inc’s Google have similarly advised their employees to work from the office for at least a few days each week.
