Mitchell Marsh’s 90 runs from 38 Balls Helps LSG Crush CSK by 7 Wickets in IPL 2026 Clash

New Delhi: Lucknow Super Giants produced a stunning all-round performance to defeat Chennai Super Kings by seven wickets in Match 59 of IPL 2026 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on May 15.

Chasing a target of 188 runs, LSG reached 188/3 in just 16.4 overs with 20 balls remaining. Mitchell Marsh completely changed the game with a brutal innings of 90 runs off just 38 balls, while Akash Singh’s brilliant bowling spell helped LSG control the match from the beginning.

The defeat came as a major setback for Chennai Super Kings in the playoff race, while Lucknow Super Giants ended their losing run with a powerful victory.

Akash Singh Gives LSG the Perfect Start

Lucknow Super Giants won the toss and chose to bowl first. Their decision worked immediately as left-arm pacer Akash Singh destroyed the CSK top order in the powerplay.

Akash first dismissed CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who scored 13 runs off 9 balls with two boundaries. Nicholas Pooran took the catch. Soon after, Akash removed wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson, who made 20 runs from 20 balls with three fours.

Young batter Urvil Patel also failed to make an impact and got out for 6 runs off 7 balls after Mitchell Marsh took the catch.

CSK were struggling badly at 52/3 because of Akash Singh’s superb opening spell. The left-arm pacer finished with outstanding figures of 3 wickets for 26 runs in four overs.

After the early collapse, Kartik Sharma played one of the best knocks of the innings and brought Chennai back into the game.

The right-handed batter scored 71 runs from 42 balls and played aggressively throughout his innings. He smashed six fours and five sixes at a strike rate of 169.05. Sharma handled the pressure brilliantly and rebuilt the innings with smart shot selection.

Dewald Brevis supported him well with a quick 25 runs from 16 balls, including two sixes. Both batters added an important 70-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

Mohammed Shami finally dismissed Brevis, but Chennai continued scoring quickly in the death overs.

Shivam Dube once again showed his finishing ability and remained unbeaten on 32 runs from just 16 balls. Dube smashed three fours and two sixes and scored at a strike rate of 200.00.

P. Veer also stayed unbeaten on 13 runs from 10 balls. Chennai Super Kings also received 7 extra runs and finished with a total of 187/5 in 20 overs.

Marsh smashed boundaries all around the ground and reached his half-century in just 21 balls. He finally got out after scoring 90 runs from only 38 balls.

His explosive innings included 9 fours and 7 massive sixes. Marsh batted at an unbelievable strike rate of 236.84 and almost finished the game single-handedly.

Josh Inglis supported him well and scored 36 runs from 32 balls with three fours and one six.

Together, Marsh and Inglis added a huge 135-run opening partnership and completely took the match away from Chennai Super Kings.

Mukesh Choudhary finally gave CSK some hope after dismissing Josh Inglis. Mitchell Marsh was later run out after his match-winning innings.
