Vijay Shankar Chaturvedi mourns the former MP’s demise, remembering his warm relationship with journalists, social workers and citizens
New Delhi: The demise of veteran Congress leader and former MP Sajjan Kumar at the age of 80 has left Delhi’s political and social circles deeply saddened. His long association with Delhi politics, public service and grassroots engagement has been remembered by Congress workers, supporters and people who knew him.
Sajjan Kumar began his political journey in 1977 as a municipal councillor. Through his hard work, strong public outreach and sensitivity towards people’s concerns, he soon established himself as a prominent figure in Delhi politics. He was later elected to the Lok Sabha several times and continued to serve the people of Delhi and the country as a parliamentarian.
Throughout his political career, Sajjan Kumar remained closely connected with ordinary people and was known for his approachable, soft-spoken and cordial personality.
His residence and office were often accessible to the public, and he remained actively involved in addressing people’s concerns. For many, he came to be regarded not only as a political leader but also as a trusted and familiar figure.
His contribution to Delhi’s development, public welfare and the strengthening of the Congress organisation is expected to be remembered. His death has been described as a significant loss for the Congress, which has lost an experienced and dedicated leader.
Vijay Shankar Chaturvedi, National President of the Accredited Journalists Association (Registered) and Editor of Rashtra Times, expressed deep sorrow over Sajjan Kumar’s demise. He described Kumar’s life as an example of public service, struggle and dedication, while noting his warm and respectful relationship with journalists, social workers and citizens.
Chaturvedi said that Sajjan Kumar’s contribution to Delhi’s political landscape would remain memorable. He noted that his simple personality, gentle manner, commitment to public issues and close connection with people had given him a distinct place in public life. He further said that the void created by his passing would be difficult to fill.
Chaturvedi also offered his condolences to the bereaved family, supporters and well-wishers and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace. He wished the family and everyone close to Sajjan Kumar’s strength to cope with the profound loss.
