Bomb Threat Chandigarh: Over 25 Schools Receive Emails, Students Evacuated

Bomb Threat Chandigarh: Police registered an FIR and launched a cyber investigation to trace email senders

New Delhi: On Wednesday morning, panic spread across Chandigarh after over 25 schools received bomb threat emails. The threatening messages warned about explosives inside school buildings. As a result, school authorities immediately informed the police and began emergency evacuations.

The emails arrived early in the day, just before classes were set to begin. Therefore, schools acted quickly to protect students and staff.

Schools on List

According to police and school officials, the bomb threat emails were sent to at least 26 schools across the city. These included:

  • St Stephen’s School, Sector 45
  • Chitkara International School, Sector 25
  • Saupins School, Sector 32-A
  • Ryan International School, Sector 49
  • DPS School, Sector 40
  • St Kabir Public School
  • Vivek High School
  • Bhavan Vidyalaya, Sector 27
  • Sacred Heart School
  • St Xavier’s School, Sector 44
  • KB DAV School, Sector 7
  • Tender Heart School, Sector 33
  • SD School, Sector 32
  • Ashiyana School, Sector 46
  • Rihan International School

Government Schools Targeted:

  • Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 16
  • Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 19
  • Government School, Sector 22
  • Sector 47 Model School

Some schools reported receiving emails, while others alerted police after receiving phone calls about bomb threats.

Immediate Evacuations

As soon as the threats were reported, school administrations evacuated students and staff as a safety measure. Many students were sent home, while others were moved to open grounds or safe areas.

Meanwhile, parents rushed to school gates to collect their children. Consequently, heavy crowds gathered outside several schools, creating tense scenes across the city.

Police Action Begins

Soon after, Chandigarh Police deployed bomb disposal squads, sniffer dog teams and anti-sabotage units to all affected schools. Police sealed school entrances and restricted movement until security checks were completed.

Giving an update, SSP Kanwardeep Kaur stated that thorough security checks have been completed at 10 of the 26 schools, with nothing suspicious detected.

Cyber Probe Launched

At the same time, police registered an FIR at Sector 17 police station. The cyber cell has started tracing the email IDs used to send the threats.

Senior Superintendent of Police Kanwardeep Kaur said investigators are examining all digital evidence to identify those responsible. Police are trying to determine whether the threats were sent by pranksters or were part of a coordinated attempt to create fear.

Parents in Panic

Meanwhile, fear and anxiety spread among parents, teachers and students. Many parents described the situation as chaotic, with police vehicles, bomb squads and ambulances stationed outside school premises.

Several students shared images and messages on social media showing emergency teams inside their schools. However, many also expressed relief after being safely evacuated.

No Explosives Found

Despite the alarming messages, authorities confirmed that no bombs or explosives have been found so far. However, police stressed that every threat must be treated seriously until proven false.

Officials also warned that even hoax threats waste emergency resources and cause emotional stress, especially for children.

Police Appeal Calm

Finally, Chandigarh Police urged parents and residents not to panic and asked everyone to rely only on official information. Police have increased security around schools and assured the public that student safety remains the top priority.

Authorities have requested citizens to immediately report any suspicious messages or activities and avoid spreading rumours.
