Apple introduces a touchscreen MacBook Pro with an OLED display, Dynamic Island, macOS 27 and M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, with sales starting November 6
New Delhi: Apple has introduced a new MacBook Pro featuring an OLED touchscreen, macOS 27, Dynamic Island and its latest M5 Pro and M5 Max processors. The new laptop lets users interact directly with the display while retaining the traditional keyboard and trackpad. Apple aims to improve productivity for professionals, content creators and everyday users through touch-friendly software features and upgraded hardware.
macOS 27 Adds Touch-Friendly Features
Apple has redesigned several macOS features to support touchscreen interactions. Users can swipe across the display to scroll through webpages, pinch to zoom in on images, and drag and drop items directly on the screen.
The company has retained the keyboard and trackpad, allowing users to switch between touch and conventional controls based on their preferences. This approach preserves the familiar MacBook experience while offering additional ways to interact with the laptop.
Apple has also introduced touch interactions across several applications, making it easier for developers to add touchscreen functionality without significantly changing their existing interfaces.
Dynamic Island Arrives on MacBook Pro
Apple has brought its iPhone-inspired Dynamic Island interface to the MacBook Pro. The feature displays notifications, live updates and other information near the camera at the top of the screen.
Users can access Spotlight search, Siri and Live Activities through Dynamic Island. They can also control music playback, respond to AirDrop requests and access other functions without repeatedly switching between applications.
With these features, Apple aims to help users manage notifications and everyday tasks more efficiently while working on their laptops.
Touchscreen Features Enhance Video Editing and Creative Work
Apple has designed the touchscreen MacBook Pro to support creative professionals and their workflows.
In Final Cut Pro, users can select video clips, move them along the timeline and zoom in or out using touch gestures.
Logic Pro users can interact directly with virtual instruments on the display, while Pixelmator Pro lets them draw, paint and select design elements on the canvas.
Apple has also highlighted touchscreen support in applications such as Microsoft Office, Canva, Notion, Adobe Lightroom and DaVinci Resolve. These capabilities give professionals additional ways to edit videos, create designs and manage projects.
OLED Display and Powerful Processors
The new MacBook Pro offers 14.2-inch and 16.3-inch display options.
Apple says its tandem OLED-based PROLED XDR display delivers peak brightness of up to 2,000 nits, a contrast ratio of 10,000,000:1 and an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz.
The company has equipped the laptop with M5 Pro and M5 Max processors.
Buyers can configure the device with up to 128GB of unified memory and up to 16TB of storage, giving professionals more capacity to handle demanding creative projects and intensive workloads.
Apple opened pre-orders on October 28 and plans to begin sales on November 6.
A Major Shift in Apple’s Laptop Experience
The touchscreen MacBook Pro marks a significant change in Apple’s approach to laptop design. By combining touch input, an OLED display and new macOS features, Apple aims to give users greater flexibility in how they work.
However, the laptop’s premium positioning could put it beyond the reach of budget-conscious buyers.
Video editors, designers and other professionals may find the combination of touchscreen controls and powerful hardware appealing, particularly if the new features improve their everyday workflows.
