NEW DELHI: Bengali traditions and community spirit are at the centre of Durga Puja celebrations in Delhi’s Kidwai Nagar East, where the Kidwai Nagar East Sarbojanin Puja Committee is marking the sixth year of its annual festival.
Held from October 16 to 21 at the Type-V, Hanuman Mandir premises, the celebrations are organised under Kidwai Nagar East Bangiya Samity (Regd.). The event brings residents, families and devotees together for religious ceremonies and cultural activities.
Puja Rituals Bring Families and Devotees Together
The celebrations feature traditional Durga Puja rituals, pushpanjali, aarti, prasad and bhog distribution, along with cultural performances. These activities provide an opportunity for community members to celebrate their heritage and share festive experiences.
Sumana Roy, president of the committee, said Durga Puja is about more than religious observances. It also creates space for families and neighbours to connect, share traditions and strengthen community relationships.
Indira Upadhyay, vice president, said the committee wants visitors from different backgrounds and generations to feel included in the festivities.

Organisers Highlight the Importance of Community Participation
Subhash Chandra Ghosh, general secretary, said the celebrations are made possible through the collective efforts of committee members and the wider community.
He added that seeing residents participate and enjoy the festival makes the organisational work rewarding.
The community-led approach has remained central to the event as it enters its sixth year, with the committee combining traditional rituals and cultural performances.
Visitors Share Their Festival Experiences
The celebrations have also offered first-time visitors an opportunity to discover Durga Puja in Delhi.
Sourav, who attended the festival for the first time in the capital, said the cultural performances and festive atmosphere stood out for him. Riya said she enjoyed seeing the traditions up close and experiencing the community’s enthusiasm.
