Delhi: HRDS INDIA has raised concerns over the custody of RSS ideologue and political commentator T.G. Mohandas following allegedly controversial comments concerning protesters at Jantar Mantar. The organisation questioned the timing and manner of the police action and called for the law to be enforced without discrimination.
No Support for Threatening or Inflammatory Remarks
The organisation clarified that it does not defend inflammatory, threatening or irresponsible statements, regardless of who makes them. However, HRDS INDIA said that legal action should always be based on established law and proper procedure.
According to the organisation, political or ideological differences should not influence decisions about whom to investigate or prosecute. It stressed that the same legal standards should apply to people across different political and ideological groups.
Aji Krishnan Stresses Equal Treatment Under Law
HRDS INDIA Founder-Secretary Aji Krishnan said that the organisation does not support any statement that encourages violence, threatens individuals or violates the standards of responsible public discourse.
At the same time, he said authorities should fairly investigate complaints against T.G. Mohandas and follow proper legal procedures. He added that authorities should treat similar allegations against people from other political or ideological groups with the same seriousness and urgency.
Krishnan warned that selective enforcement can undermine public trust in the rule of law.
Attention Should Not Shift From Kerala’s Key Concerns
HRDS INDIA also pointed out that the ongoing controversy could take public attention away from other important issues in Kerala. The organisation specifically referred to concerns surrounding flood relief operations and protests involving coastal communities.
It urged the Kerala government and police to maintain transparency, follow due process and ensure equal application of the law. The organisation also called for the protection of democratic rights and legitimate political expression.
