Rinku Singh’s Father, Khanchand Singh, Dies of Stage 4 Cancer

Harbhajan Singh Extends Prayers and Support to Rinku Singh After His Father’s Passing

New Delhi: Indian cricketer Rinku Singh is going through a heartbreaking time as his father, Khanchand Singh, passed away on February 27, 2026, after fighting stage-four liver cancer. He was admitted to Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. Doctors had placed him on ventilator support and were also giving continuous renal therapy as his condition remained critical. Despite all medical efforts, his health worsened, and he passed away early Friday morning.

This tragic news came while Rinku was part of India’s squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

Rinku Rushes Home

When his father’s condition became serious earlier in the week, Rinku left the Indian team camp in Chennai and rushed to Greater Noida to be with him. He spent important time with his father and family at the hospital before returning to the team ahead of India’s Super 8 match against Zimbabwe.

However, the team did not include him in the playing XI for that match. Sanju Samson played instead, and Rinku was seen only as a substitute fielder. After confirmation of his father’s death, Rinku once again left the team to return to Aligarh to attend the funeral and support his family.

Harbhajan Shares Message

Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh expressed his grief on social media platform X. In his message, he wrote that he was pained to learn about the demise of Shri Khanchand Singh Ji, father of Rinku Singh. He said this must be an especially difficult time for Rinku and his family, even as he remains committed to his responsibilities during the T20 World Cup. Harbhajan added that his heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with him and his loved ones. He also prayed that Waheguru grant eternal peace to the departed soul and give strength and courage to the bereaved family.

His message touched many fans and fellow cricketers, who also shared their condolences online.

Father’s Hard Work

Khanchand Singh worked as an LPG cylinder deliveryman in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. The family faced financial challenges, but he always supported Rinku’s dream of becoming a cricketer. He made sure his son received training and encouragement, even when money was limited.

World Cup Impact

Rinku Singh is known as a strong finisher in white-ball cricket. However, in the ongoing T20 World Cup, he has scored 24 runs in five innings. Limited batting chances and the emotional stress of his father’s illness have affected his tournament so far.

India still has important matches ahead, including a key Super 8 game against West Indies. It remains unclear whether Rinku will be available for the upcoming matches, as team management considers his emotional situation and current form. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet released an official statement about his participation.

Emotional Moment

The passing of Khanchand Singh has deeply moved cricket fans across the country. Rinku’s story is not just about cricket but about family sacrifice, hard work, and determination. As India continues its World Cup journey, the cricketing community stands with Rinku Singh and his family during this painful time, remembering the father whose support helped build an international cricketer’s dream.
