From powerful batting displays to nerve-wracking moments at the death, the match had it all. In the end, Gujarat Giants showed greater composure under pressure and defeated UP Warriorz by 10 runs, making a confident start to their WPL 2026 campaign.

Gujrat Giants Build a Massive Total

To begin with, Gujarat Giants used the batting-friendly pitch to full advantage. They posted a strong 207 for 4 in 20 overs. Captain Ashleigh Gardner led from the front once again. She played a powerful yet controlled knock of 65 off 41 balls. She chose her shots wisely and kept the scoreboard moving.

At the same time, Anushka Brijmohan Sharma gave her captain excellent support. She scored a confident 44 off 30 balls. Together, the pair built a crucial partnership. This stand helped Gujarat recover from early pressure and take control of the innings.

Earlier, Sophie Devine set the tone with aggressive intent. She smashed 38 off just 20 balls. Her quick scoring ensured Gujarat maintained a strong run rate from the start. Later, Georgia Wareham, unbeaten on 27 off 10 balls, provided late fireworks. Bharti Fulmali added momentum with 14 off 7 balls. As a result, Gujarat crossed the 200-run mark comfortably.

Ecclestone Shines in a Tough Bowling Effort

Despite the heavy run flow, UP Warriorz found a bright spot in Sophie Ecclestone, who stood out with the ball. She bowled with discipline and finished with figures of 2 for 32 in her 4 overs.

Meanwhile, Shikha Pandey and Deandra Dottin also picked up 1 wicket each. However, Gujarat’s aggressive batting and strong finish ensured UP Warriorz faced a steep challenge while chasing.

The standout performer was Phoebe Litchfield, who played a sensational knock of 78 off 40 balls. She attacked from the outset, finding boundaries regularly and keeping the chase alive deep into the innings.

Captain Meg Lanning added stability with 30 off 27 balls, while Shweta Sehrawat kept the momentum going with 25 off 17 balls. Later, Asha Sobhana nearly turned the match around with a rapid 27 not out off 10 balls, bringing fresh excitement into the contest.
