The Congress’s focus on Manusmriti, Dalit rights, women and Gen Z appears to be part of a broader effort to connect with voters who could play an important role in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Rather than treating these as separate issues, the party appears to be bringing them together under a wider narrative of equality, constitutional values and social justice.
Why Manusmriti Has Become a Political Flashpoint
Manusmriti has once again become part of the political debate following Rahul Gandhi’s criticism of the text and the caste hierarchy historically associated with it.
Gandhi has repeatedly contrasted the Indian Constitution with what he describes as discriminatory elements of the traditional caste system. He has used the issue to focus the debate on equality, dignity and equal rights.

The Congress has been pushing the issue of caste enumeration for some time, with Rahul Gandhi making it one of his prominent political demands.
